Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping Canada’s electricity system, and the renewable energy workforce is already experiencing the shift. Drawing on EHRC’s 2025 report Powering Intelligence: AI‑Driven Change in Canada’s Electricity Workforce, this session provides a high‑level, evidence‑based view of how AI adoption is changing work across renewable generation, storage, grid operations, and project delivery.
Speakers will examine where AI‑driven task changes are emerging first, the growing gap between informal AI use and formal governance and training, and why these gaps matter in increasingly digital, interconnected energy systems. The discussion will also explore how AI‑intensive industries, including data centres and advanced grid technologies, are intensifying competition for engineers, technicians, and ICT professionals needed to support Canada's clean energy transition. Participants will leave with practical insights into near‑term workforce risks and opportunities, and the role inclusive strategies play in sustaining renewable energy growth.
