Information
Traditionally, onsite backup generation has been powered by carbon heavy fuels. But this is changing, just as growing grid challenges are driving residential demand for resilience solutions. In 2022, 10% of new U.S. residential PV systems included battery storage. Thanks to changing market conditions, behind-the-meter (BTM) solar+storage systems are becoming a viable alternative to fossil generators. This session will explore how customer demand for backup power has driven the BTM solar+storage market so far, how the market will evolve going forward, what we can expect from these systems during grid outages (including long-duration outages) and as homes become increasingly electrified, and key technology innovations that will help drive this market.
Primary Topics
ElectrificationInfrastructure and Resilience
Learning Objective 1
Explore the evolution of behind-the-meter (BTM) solar+storage systems driven by customer demand for resilient backup power solutions.
Learning Objective 2
Examine future trends and developments in the BTM solar+storage market, particularly in response to growing residential electrification and grid challenges.
Learning Objective 3
