In Florida and across the Gulf South, communities face a convergence of disaster risks, including hurricanes, heat waves, and rising energy burdens. But behind these environmental hazards lies a deeper story of unequal impact, shaped by historic disinvestment, systemic racism, and gaps in emergency management planning. This session brings together leaders at the intersection of energy, social equity, and disaster management and resilience to examine how energy systems must evolve to protect, rather than burden, frontline communities.
